Before buying diving regulators, we have a lot of questions. Often it takes a long time before buying your own equipment. We are still in doubt about which regulator is suitable for us. So, we tried to prepare answers to the most frequent questions about choosing a regulator for diving.

How to choose a good regulator?

It is extremely important to choose a quality manufacturer because it is your safety foremost. You should be able to use the regulator easily and breathe naturally at any depth and in any conditions.

How much should I spend on a regulator?

Diving regulators are an integral part of dive equipment and come with a hefty price tag, compared to other bits of kit. When you buy a regulator, it is the best way to buy a full set consisting of the first, and second stages and gauge. You should expect to spend around US$400 to $1500.

Why are diving regulators expensive?

The price of regulators depends on several factors.

  1. The dive regulator must be reliable and therefore undergo a series of studies before entering the market.
  2. Some countries have high import taxes, which also increases pricing.
  3. If you buy a well-known brand regulator, you also pay for the brand name.

Why are Octopus regulators cheaper?

Since the octopus is a second-stage regulator, and we use it only in emergency cases, its functionality is not high either. Of course, there are offers on the market that offer more add-ons than the basic ones, but this is rare. So, the price of an octopus will be about the same.

What is the lifespan of a regulator?

Mostly, we need to replace regulators every five years. Each manufacturer stamps the date of manufacture of their regulators before selling them, so you can easily find this information. Plus, regulators are recommended to be maintained every period of use, please refer to the product manual for the detailed recommended maintenance time.

Do you need an octopus regulator?

This question doesn’t come up that often, although sometimes people may ask this question as well. Our answer is that you definitely need to have an octopus regulator. We hope that you never have to be in an emergency situation and thus use the octopus, but neglecting to have it underwater is extremely unsafe. What will we do when our buddy’s air will run out?
